Motorboats

Motorboats are most common in our long country with such a long coastline and with so many holiday homes. Many people who have holiday homes also want a boat to go out on the lake to swim, fish or go sightseeing or to a restaurant.

Buying new or used and which motorboat should I buy?

Finding the perfect powerboat can be a challenge, even if you’re an experienced boater. As a boat buyer, you are faced with several choices and here are the tips to help you through the complex process. If in doubt, make sure you talk to other boat owners or a salesperson. Buying a used motorboat is often cost-effective but can also be expensive if you don’t inspect the boat properly.

Our tips for finding the perfect powerboat

How do you want to use the boat and what is important to you? Start by finding out what your needs are when buying a boat – what model you are interested in and how you want to use it. What are your needs and how do you want to use the boat? Do you want it for private use for swimming, fishing, summer fun, cruising, water skiing or transport boat. Compare different models and think about how often you will want to use the boat and how you feel about it or is it mostly a status item. Make a list of requirements and a budget for all the costs that the boat purchase will entail.

Buying a sailboat or a powerboat? Sure, it can be nice to sail forward – but a motorboat is often easier to handle. How is your family’s patience for longer sailings that many younger people may find tedious especially on a slow day.

A diesel engine is often more expensive to buy than a petrol engine, but it often has a better second-hand value, is safer and lasts longer. In addition, diesel engines are more fuel efficient than petrol engines. However, the diesel does not have the same power as a petrol engine.

Have you examined the motorboat?

Do a proper inspection of the boat and feel free to get help from an inspector if you do not know what you need to check. Check the status of the boat and if there are any problems. Check the appearance of the boat underneath the hulls and the engine make, model and year.

Test all functions and check that the engine starts ok and functions such as immobiliser, throttle and tachometer work. Other functions that can be controlled are oil pressure gauge, voltmeter, temp gauge and plotter. Also check how many engine hours the engine has, cruising speed and maximum rpm.

If you buy from a reputable motorboat broker, there will probably be a delivery report with boat data, copy of the final invoice of the 1st owner with VAT, keys, CE documentation, service history, unclean survey of condition, etc.
Get an overall impression and examine the whole boat with hull, deck, floor, cushions, superstructure, canopy, windows, buttons, engine, propeller and interior. Look carefully for damage if there is moisture and mold damage or something that is missing. If there are any hidden problems negotiate and make sure you get a lower price.

One very important thing is to make sure the boat is CE marked or you will have problems with your boat insurance and when you resell the boat. This is especially true of American brands such as SeaRay.

Who owns the boat?

Make sure the seller really owns the motorboat: you can ask for receipts, service history, insurance and make sure you have the identity of the person selling the boat. You can check that the boat is not stolen on the theft tip . Also make sure that there are no loans on the boat and hull and engine number.

Never pay with cash as there is a risk of assault. Always pay at the bank by bank transfer and make sure there are no debts around the boat.

Are you prepared for the boat purchase?

Make sure that you have arranged storage, ie jetty, mooring and winter storage arranged. On the west coast, contact Portside marina in Stockholm, contact Svininge marina , for example

Trade in your boat for a new boat or if you want to change to a better boat

With long experience and with well over 1,000 delivered Hanse sailboats and motorboats from Hanse Yachts, we are also good at mediating boats that have already had an owner.

Our experience and knowledge provide security for both sellers and buyers. We invest the same time and energy for a second-hand customer as a new boat customer. This means, for example, a visual overview and review of the boat’s functions with the buyers. Our focus is on boat models from Hanse yachts, but we mediate boats of other brands, especially for those who are going to buy a new Hanse Moody Fjord or RYCK!
